How
Johansen Farms Came To Be What It Is Today
|
Johansen Farms formally known as
Low-Land-Gardens originated in 1925
when Hans Johansen came to America from Copenhagen
Denmark to settle in Lisle, Illinois.
Hans raised fresh vegetables and flowers in hot beds
to sell at his road side vegetable stand.
|
 |
|
Cort Johansen
Sr., the second oldest of Hans’ four children was born
in 1929 and chose to follow in his father’s footsteps
opening his first farm stand with his wife Dorothy
in 1957.
|
 |
|
Cort and Dorothy Johansen continued building their
business throughout the years while raising a family
of six children. By the year 1979, Cort and his
family had established six road side farm stands
were now expanding to add their Boughton Road
location in Bolingbrook, IL.
This new vegetable and
flower farm location, featuring an annual fall
festival and children’s petting zoo, would soon come
to be known as the pinnacle to the beginning of the
holiday season for suburban and Chicago residents.
|
|
With the passing of Cort Johansen in 1990, his wife
and six children carried on his legacy to maintain
the Bolingbrook location.
|
This year the Johansen's are celebrating its 80th
year of business. Today, Johansen Farm continues to
bring the families of Chicagoland a fall festival of
the grandest of pumpkin displays, stunning mums in
every fall shade and a petting zoo for children of
all ages as a celebration of the season.
|
 |
|
Johansen Farms opened a second location in 2000
featuring a permanent green house and garden center
that local residents have come to rely on for the
finest in vegetable and flower offerings, a gift
boutique featuring only the most unique home and
garden gift ideas.
The Johansen family prides itself on its ability to
sustain their father’s quest for quality products and
personalized customer relations.
